CARMXN, 2023

I created the background animated projections from imagery along the Rio Grande border, mountains near the Rio Grande and other source material. They were projected on to five screens.

The opera is set on the USA/Mexico border. Singers from all over the world added their own immigration stories to the opera performed in five languages– Dari, English, Nahuatl, Spanish, and French. Renowned singers who have performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Saatsoper Stuttgart, Carnegie Hall, and Santa Fe Opera perform this complicated, political, and thoroughly new interpretation of the feminist icon, Carmen. Felix Jarrar rewrote the libretto to include traditional arias, spoken stories and drag show. There will also be a dance party!
